When Career & College Readiness Becomes a Daily Habit — Not a Year-End Report

I had a conversation recently with a high school district that reminded me why I love this work.

Their team was trying to build a meaningful Career & College Readiness experience for students — something that went beyond a static dashboard or a compliance checklist. But the reality behind the scenes was tough. Staff were spending hours pulling data from multiple systems, juggling spreadsheets, and literally using multiple monitors just to see how students were performing on their readiness indicators.

And the students? They wanted them to be engaged, challenged, and able to track their own progress. The district even had a Distinguished Student Award tied to many of the same indicators — but without unified data, it was nearly impossible to manage consistently.

They needed a system that worked every day, not just at the end of the semester.

⭐ The Indicators That Matter

The district wanted to track a full picture of readiness, including:

• Attendance percent

• Number of AP courses

• AP test results

• ACT Math and ELA scores

• Activities and involvement

• Community service hours

• GPA

• Earned credits

• Dual credit courses

• Career experiences

• Industry certifications

• Employment

• Capstone courses

• Career pathway selection

And they wanted all of it updated nightly — with green highlights showing when students met their indicators.

That’s when the real work began.

⭐ Building a System That Works for Everyone

Because the district uses PowerSchool, we were able to leverage our integration plugin to export all required data every night. We built loaders for AP results, ACT9/10/11, and ACT scores. We created a Community Service module so students could self‑report hours. All of it flows into a data warehouse automatically.

From there, we built a Career & College Readiness dashboard that pulls everything together.

Students log in through Google. Staff can instantly view a student’s dashboard during meetings. And the resume builder automatically pulls GPA, activities, work experience, and other CCR data — while letting students add their own career objective and references.

No more multi‑monitor juggling. No more fragmented data. No more waiting for someone to “pull the report.”

What I love most is how quickly students embraced it.

They check their dashboard. They monitor their progress. They take ownership of their high school journey. And staff finally have a tool that supports real conversations — not just compliance. 

This is what happens when districts commit to systemic change. When data becomes unified, students become empowered.
